Walks in 2012

February 8th - Stover Country Park- Led by Ernie

22 walkers turned out on a bright winter's morning with the temperature below zero for a walk around Stover lakes and nearby countryside.

Along the way we stopped to see various parts of the Stover Canal. After returning to the cars we went on to the Star Inn at Liverton where yet again we were treated to an excellent value "old codgers" menu

Due to my stupidity I had allowed my camera to put itself into a Close-up mode and I didn't realise this until I was halfway through the walk. All the early photos, including the Group photo, are out of focus.

You can see the photos I managed to rescue by clicking here.

Fortunately we had Jaki, one of our newest members, on hand to supply us with an outstanding set of images to record the walk. You can see Jaki's photos by clicking here.

January 25th - Decoy & Abbotskerswell - Led by Joy

21 walkers turned out a cold damp morning and followed Joy on a walk from Decoy to Abbotskerswell.

On the way we passed through several muddy fields, viewed a large herd of cows in the distance, and at the top of the hill where we normally expect fine views across Dartmoor we huddled in a windswept group while peering through the mist seeing not very much at all.

We descended into Abbotskerswell where we had a very enjoyable lunch at Court Farm before returning via a different though even muddier route to Decoy.

You can see the photos I took on the walk by clicking here.
Lots more phor photos of this walk were taken by Maureen and her daughter Jaki.   See Maureen's photos here and Jaki's photos here

January 11th - Exeter Canal - Led by Chris & Malcolm

I was unfortunate in having a nasty cough/cold which prevented me from coming on what has now become  the traditional First Walk of the New Year and as per tradition is led by Chris and Malcolm.

Jane writes:-  “Weather was wonderful, great walk, and coffee stop so interesting at the Riverside Cafe.  On to lunch at the Tally Ho in the garden would you believe...........had to share the pub with a funeral party so we let them have the inside.  22 of us did the walk, great start to 2012,” Click here to see Bob’s photos taken on the walk.

Dennis writes “ The group got back at 1.15pm and all but 4 of us had lunch in the garden which was enjoyed. The other four braved the din of the pub to have a warmer lunch.”

Dennis fails to mention that he was one of the Four who stayed inside on the pretext that his soup would get cold!

We were pleased to welcome the return of Maureen to the walking group and this time she brought along her daughter Jaki who was able to take lots of photos which you can view by clicking here
